An interesting first day.  Got off to quite an early start at 5:50 AM where we went to pick up Kevin at the hotel and then were on our way to Ashern.  On the two hour ride to Ashern Kevin and I reveled in the fact that we were both fans of the mysterious and waxed eloquent on things such as the Ogopogo, UFO’s and Bigfoot (or what it would be like to see a Bigfoot riding Ogopoogo in one instance)

The school presentation itself was a hit.  The kids were quite respectful, albeit a little underwhelmed for a first period Monday morning talk on impaired driving.  Kevin did a great job as always getting his point across and he had quite a few kids come up to him afterwards and talk to him about the presentation.

After this it was off to Thompson on a nice six hour car ride.  The ride was not altogether uneventful as about an hour in we had to turn around and go back for the power cord for Kevin’s laptop which we left in Ashern.  After this little side trip we headed back on the road.

Some of wildlife highlights of the drive were bald eagles, snail cranes, woodchucks and a swift fox (nobody saw that one but me).  We also took in the comedy stylings of Mr. Dane Cook but I found his rather graphic humor a little much (good way to kill two hours of monotonous driving though).

Thompson school is on the ballet tomorrow.  A big school with a big audience.  I am sure that Kevin will do great as he always does.  CBC will be coming to talk to him and Jeanie will be going to meet with the local SpeedWatch group in town to see if she can offer any assistance.

All things considered a pretty good start to the trip and I am looking forward to seeing what the next few days hold for us.
